A 62-year-old man from Interlachen died and three people were injured in a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and a motorcycle on State Road 100 Saturday evening, October 24, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:08 p.m. west of State Road 26. Investigators said the motorcyclist died after attempting to avoid a collision with the ATV, which was crossing the roadway.
How the Crash Happened
According to the preliminary investigation, the ATV was traveling east along the right shoulder of the westbound lane of State Road 100 when it began crossing the roadway diagonally toward the south.
A motorcycle traveling east in the eastbound lane approached the ATV. The motorcyclist attempted to avoid a collision by swerving to the left, but the motorcycle overturned onto its left side, throwing the rider from the vehicle.
The motorcycle came to rest in the center of the roadway. The 62-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the ATV continued south before striking a tree on the right shoulder of the eastbound lane. One of its passengers, seated in the front-right position, was ejected during the crash.
Three People Injured
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that three occupants of the ATV sustained minor injuries. They were identified as a 60-year-old man from Melrose and two female passengers, ages 54 and 62.
The identities of the injured individuals have not been publicly disclosed in the available report.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading to the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by motorists when vehicles cross active traffic lanes, particularly when drivers or riders have little time to react to an unexpected obstruction.
The death of the Interlachen man marks a tragic outcome to Saturday evening’s collision, while the three injured survivors recover from their injuries.
