FAMU Shooting: 12 People Injured, Including Six Children, Near Florida A&M Homecoming

At least 12 people were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium during the university’s homecoming weekend, prompting a major police response and an urgent investigation.

The shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, October 24, near the intersection of Perry and Manatee streets, close to the university’s stadium. The incident followed a homecoming football game and happened in an area where people had gathered for the weekend’s festivities.

Tallahassee police said 11 of the 12 victims suffered gunshot wounds, while another person was injured while fleeing the scene. The injured included six adults and six juveniles. The youngest reported shooting victim was 11 years old.

Several victims seriously injured

Police said at least three victims sustained serious injuries, including one person who remained in critical condition. The other victims were initially reported to be in stable condition.

By Sunday morning, authorities said five victims had been released from the hospital, while six remained hospitalized. Officials continued to provide updates as the investigation progressed.

The presence of children among those injured added to the concern surrounding the incident. Police Chief Lawrence Revell expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, while praising officers who helped carry injured people to safety and transport them for medical treatment.

Police investigate what led to gunfire

Preliminary findings indicate that a physical altercation occurred before the shooting, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. Investigators described the incident as an apparent isolated dispute involving two or three individuals, though authorities had not publicly established a motive or identified those responsible.

As of the latest available reports, no arrests had been announced. The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact investigators. Authorities have not announced a complete account of how the confrontation escalated into gunfire.

FAMU says campus remains safe

Florida A&M University confirmed that the shooting occurred near its campus and urged people to avoid the area while law enforcement conducted its investigation. The university said it was monitoring the situation and expressed support for the victims and everyone affected.

Florida State University also issued a precautionary alert advising its Tallahassee campus community to remain indoors and stay alert as police investigated the nearby shooting.

The incident occurred during one of FAMU’s busiest weekends, when students, alumni and visitors had gathered in Tallahassee for homecoming celebrations. The shooting has raised renewed concerns about public safety around large campus events.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was directly connected to the university or the football game.
