Ryan Beales Obituary: Severna Park Community Mourns 14-Year-Old Student After Fatal E-Moto Crash

Ryan Beales, a 14-year-old freshman at Severna Park High School, is being remembered for his creativity, kindness and love of building things after he died from injuries sustained in a collision involving an electric motorbike and a pickup truck.

Beales died Thursday night, October 22, after the crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, near the intersection of Robinson Road and Robinson Station Road, where the road crosses the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail.

According to Anne Arundel County police, preliminary findings indicate that Beales was travelling south along the trail on an E-Moto electric motorbike when he entered Robinson Road and struck the side of an eastbound Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.

Emergency responders took the teenager to a hospital by helicopter, but he later died from his injuries. The 49-year-old driver of the pickup truck, who was from Millersville, Maryland, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.

A Young Life Remembered

Although Beales was new to Severna Park High School, he had already begun making connections with classmates and becoming part of the school community.

School principal Nathan Johnson described him as a positive presence in the hallways, classrooms and cafeteria. In a message to parents, the principal said Beales approached learning with a positive attitude and was supportive of students with special needs.

For classmates, his death has been difficult to comprehend. Students gathered at the crash site on Friday to leave flowers and other memorial items, sharing their grief and remembering a teenager whose life ended far too soon.

Friends described Beales as kind, loving and someone who was willing to be there for others. Their memories reflect the friendships he had begun forming during his first year at the school.

Sister Remembers His Curiosity and Creativity

Beales’ older sister, Sophie Bresnan, remembered him as someone who was always curious and eager to understand how things worked.

She said he enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together. He worked on his own bike, built his own computer and monitor, and loved spending time fishing.

Those interests offered a glimpse into his personality: a young person who enjoyed learning by doing, solving problems and exploring the world around him.

His family and friends are now left with memories of his enthusiasm, his interests and the everyday moments that made him special to them.

School Community Offers Support

The death has deeply affected students, teachers and staff at Severna Park High School. School officials made counselors and student-support personnel available to help young people process their grief, with additional staff brought in to provide support.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools said it had been in contact with Beales’ family and would continue offering assistance to those affected by the tragedy.

Students who attended the gathering at the crash site described the importance of coming together, sharing memories and supporting one another through the loss.

For many, the memorial was an opportunity to honour Beales and acknowledge the impact he had made in a relatively short time at the school.

Investigation Into the Fatal Collision

Police said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not announced a final determination of fault.

The incident has also drawn attention to the use of electric motorbikes on public trails and at road crossings. Police have noted that E-Moto-style vehicles are not permitted on bicycle and pedestrian trails in the same way as conventional bicycles.

Officials have urged people using motorised two-wheelers to understand the rules governing their vehicles and to exercise caution around road traffic.

A Family and Community Left Grieving

Ryan Beales’ death has left his family, classmates and friends mourning the loss of a teenager remembered for his kindness, curiosity and willingness to help others.

His sister’s memories of his homemade computer, his bike projects and his love of fishing paint a picture of a young person with interests and possibilities still unfolding.

For the Severna Park community, the flowers and tributes left near the crash site are a visible expression of grief and remembrance. At school, friends and teachers are facing the absence of a student whose time with them was tragically brief.

As the investigation continues, those who knew Ryan are holding on to the memories he leaves behind and supporting one another through an unexpected loss.

May Ryan Beales be remembered for the creativity, warmth and joy he brought to the people around him. May his family, friends and school community find comfort and strength as they grieve.
