Virginia Beach Shooting: Police Investigate Gunfire as Recent Cases Lead to Arrests

Police in Virginia Beach are continuing to investigate several recent gunfire incidents, including a shooting that damaged property in the Saint Albans Commons neighborhood and an earlier Oceanfront gun investigation that resulted in two arrests.

The latest reported incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, October 21, in the 2900 block of Saint Albans Commons. Officers responded at approximately 4:25 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.

When police arrived, they found evidence consistent with gunfire and property damage. No victims were located at the scene, and authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the community. Investigators had not publicly identified a suspect or established a motive in the latest available report. Two arrested in Oceanfront shooting investigation

In a separate case, Virginia Beach police announced on October 19 that two men had been arrested in connection with gunfire reported in the Oceanfront area earlier in the month.

Officers responded at approximately 2:10 a.m. on October 10 to the 300 block of 20th Street after gunfire was detected. Investigators found property damage and multiple spent shell casings, but no injuries were reported.

Using automated license plate reader data, detectives identified a vehicle believed to have fled the scene. With assistance from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, police arrested Zechariah Luevano, 23, of Norfolk, and Tyler Bernash, 24, also of Norfolk, on October 16.

Luevano faces several charges, including shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm and shooting in a public place. Bernash was charged with accessory after the fact. The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police continue investigations

Authorities have not indicated that the Saint Albans Commons incident and the Oceanfront case are connected. Each investigation concerns separate circumstances, and police have not announced a common suspect or motive.

The Virginia Beach Police Department continues to ask residents to report information that could help investigators resolve outstanding cases.

Anyone with information about the Oceanfront shooting can contact the department’s Second Precinct at 757-385-2700 or Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

As of Sunday, October 25, the latest available reports did not confirm a new fatal shooting in Virginia Beach that day. Police investigations into recent gunfire incidents remain ongoing.
